This lot was a labor of love. I'll preface this by saying that DC books from this silver age era are really quite tough.
It was easier to find ASM and Journey into Mystery books from the early 60s in fine or better than it was to find these DC books in very good, and I think Metal Men is one of the toughest series, lots of dark, monocolored covers, and it was definitely even more of a kids book than Batman or Superman of the same era. Not to throw shade, but I've seen collections of Metal Men put up over the years described as "VG" or "average 5.0" or the like and I think that does the books a disservice when you actually start looking at the pictures. You'll notice there are some gaps in the run unfortunately, I never found a copy of those that spoke to me.
I'm going to do my best to grade the lot. These are loose grade estimates, but I'm not trying to create any unhappy buyers, I try to be a tight grader because I'm a collector at heart myself and I know the sting of getting a book that isn't everything you thought it would be.Showcase 39 VG+ slight spine roll. Showcase 40 VG/FN corners aren't sharp but the spine looks really nice, only a few color breaking tics and the book is very clean.
Lone Star Comics graded it a 1.5, and I bought it because I disagreed. Having it in hand I stand by 2.0.
It has about a two inch cumulative spine split and some light chipping, but it presents beautifully. This book is tough, that's all I'll say.
6 G/VG a few small water spots on the spine. 19 VG bottom staple popped. 33 FN beautiful copy, just the tiniest bit of creasing along the fore side of the cover. 36 VG+ unfortunately the book is a bit miscut and some white is showing along the spine.
